It's possible to setup APT to pull individual packages from testing/unstable/experimental/etc, if you are happy to take the risk. Beware of dependencies pulling in more than you really wanted from not-stable. You can very much end up with a unique distribution that's all yours to maintain and troubleshoot; don't expect others to be able to offer much help or advice if you end up with a mix of versioning that's problematic. If you feel confident, and know what you're doing, it can be a convenient way to deal with this scenario that you're describing.
