Couldn't find this before, but here's the post in the Debian bug reports where someone (Chris Hofstaedtler) added the message that's under discussion here. Go to this link and scroll down to the last reply, where Chris added this "hint" into mount.
Also, just a comment on the original problem: I could of course be wrong, but I believe this is a Debian upstream problem, and not RaspberryPi specifc at all. If that's the case, doesn't seem likely to me that RPL will fix it themselves. Use the fix I posted and enjoy life.
No mention of raspberrypi anywhere in that discussion.
IOW complaining about the issue in these forums won't cause any motion on fixing it. Also, reverting the fix that Chris made will cause the other bug reported in that thread to once again occur.
