And if your apt updates are taking too long, you should have a look at apt-cacher-ng. It eliminates nearly all of the package download time, except for the first time you access it. And, of course there's an sdm package to install and properly configure apt-cacher-ng. ;)
I mean, I don't make a habit of installing and removing packages, but really the biggest problem is the installation process itself. In the end what it comes down to is the RPi4 just does not have a powerful CPU.

To be fair, my desktop has a Ryzen 9 9900X. One gets used to things being snappy and near instantaneous.
