Is your network dongle plugged into the same USB port as the crontab example?I have currently got the same issue, but with a Pi 5 and a 2.5G USB 3.0 adapter. Have tried the cron fix below and it didn't work for me. It seems I may be forced to add a powered USB hub to the setup. I can only assume its power related?
