Beginners • Re: Portable Pi5 power supply? For different projects.

I would like to use my pi 5 on multiple projects, and I think it would be convenient if there was a portable power supply to support it, So do they got any?
Good luck on finding a powerbank that will provide a single connection with 5A at 5v. Even if you do find one, you'll need a 5A USB cable, and that will require using an "e-marked" cable with that rating.
While I agree with what you say, and that is what the spec requires, I have seen mention of dumb 5A USB C extension cables. Such cables are NOT USB spec compliant. They might work, with the limitation that you would have to override the USB port current limiting. Also have to worry about cable length and voltage drop.
Cable length is (has always been) potentially an issue. I have used "less capable" (than 5A) powerbanks (PD capable) and a similar PD PSU, with a P5 without "high demand" USB devices but with a short (supplied or purchased separately) cable of ~0.3m length - longer lengths (albeit a limited number of samples) dropped too much voltage at higher currents: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... plies.html
It's quite likely there are longer (e-marked) cables with lower resistance but I suspect their cost would be comparable, if not greater than, the "official PSU". (and there's the cost of the Powerbank to be factored in too).
However, should a "higher" current powerbank cable combination be found I'd be interested in any loading measurements performed to confirm its capabilities. (Labels often only partially tell "the truth" ;) )
