Many thanks, I think this resolution of 320 horizontal may cause the problem: another Waveshare display (5.5inch HDMI AMOLED WS-16103 https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/5.5inch_HDMI_AMOLED) makes no problems, but the resolution is 1080×1920, more normal. Another observation is that the wlr-randr off command is here much faster and comes immediately back to the OS prompt, with the 320x1460 display it takes 2-3 seconds.

There might be something in the code of Wayland (in opposite to X11) which sets a "unusual" resolution of 320x1480 "back" to something "reasonable" as default ... and then its over.

I will also test with the DSI version of the same 320x1460 display (https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/11.9inch_DSI_LCD), where no HDMI chip is inbetween ....
