Since even 5v applied to a GPIO data pin will kill a Pi, I leave it to your imagination what 220VAC would do...though I'll concede it would be spectacular.I am not an electriction and I don't really know what I'm doing. But I want to be careful, that is why I'm asking for help. Normally you would tell me to stay away from mains but I am being very careful.
What you first want to learn about are "optoisolators".
Note that simply dropping the power to the PC will not (in the long run) be good for the PC.
If you have firm time of day for the cartoons he is not supposed to watch, you could use parental controls in your router to disable net access at those times. (You could probably do it with software on the PC, too.) Note that I consider all such controls, whether on the PC, in the router, or by using a Pi to be a form of intelligence test. Are you sure your son isn't smart enough to figure out how to evade your control attempts...and what you're teaching him by using them?
