It sounds like something may be broken - I can't think what would hammer the WiFi chip so badly that it gets warm, let alone so hot you can't touch it.

To delete your 'main.py' the simplest way is to hold the BOOTSEL button while plugging it into your Pi or PC, drag and drop the MicroPython 'firmware.uf2' to it again ... but ... I'd be cautious about connecting it via USB if you don't have it currently plugged into USB because heat usually means an electrical short of some kind and it's hard to predict what damage plugging it in might do.
