'Laptop' is a big word and many will think of people trying to build a macbook air styled/sized unit.
Luggagable AIO (all in one) builds are easily possible at low costs. What is pictured here - https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopi ... p#p2225147 - uses a 13.3in eDP panel salvaged from a dead HP subnotebook (screen has 2560x1440pixels resolution)!, an eDP driver card from ebay (USD25 incl shipping cost), some 20mm square aluminium rails (like used in 3D printers/laser cutters) and a milled piece of wood which was found in the hardware store scrap box for 1EUR.
Cover the electronics on the back (i.e. With a plastic storage box) , add a power tool battery and DC/DC (as shown here https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopi ... l#p2215375) and you will end up with a luggageble Pi5 which will run for quite some hours.
It wont look super stylish but it will do it's job (that one is used for running ubuntu).
