I am trying to install Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and MAC on an old laptop (sony vaio 2009)
Note that I am using an archive version (Buster 2021-07-01) because there are a couple of programs I am exploring that will not work on Bullseye or later versions of PiOS
I keep getting a failed installation on the Install system step.
When i try the step again I get "the target file contains files from a past installation... if you proceed existing files may be overwritten
I have tried:
Downloading and reburning the image. I am using an USB SD card reader not a usb stick
Completely formatting the HD to remove old files and trying installation from start.
On choice of repeating the step I'v tried both Normal and Live installation.
What am I missing?
Could it be that the laptop was originally 64bit system and the RPI is based on 32bit? Although I have read that 64 bit processors are usually compatible with 32 bit OS.
I am fairly new to this and my knowledge is quite patchy.
